Biography
NOHLAB is a studio focused on producing interdisciplinary experiences around art, design and technology. It builds a bridge between digital and physical realms, exploring how technology shapes our perception of time and space. NOHLAB produces immersive experiences and spatial storytelling works, where the connection between humans and technology is reflected in diverse ways.
The studio’s works have been showcased at notable festivals and events including Milan Design Week, ISEA, Signal, OFFF, TEDx, Vivid, Sónar and the World Government Summit. It has received awards and recognition from Prix Ars Electronica, the Immersive Art Festival and Japan Media Arts Festival. NOHLAB has also collaborated with global brands and cultural institutions such as Nike, Chanel, Pink Floyd, Audi, Target, the Scriabin Museum and Atelier des Lumières.
NOHLAB was founded in Istanbul in 2011 by Candaş Şişman and Deniz Kader.
Practice
NOHLAB creates immersive environments that investigate perception through the interplay of architecture, light, sound and moving image. Working across installation, audiovisual performance, projection, interactive media and spatial design, the studio develops experiences where digital systems become integral components of physical space rather than overlays upon it.
Time is central to the practice. Rather than presenting immediate visual spectacle, NOHLAB choreographs gradual transformations in light, sound and movement that encourage sustained attention and contemplation. Visitors become active participants, constructing meaning through their own movement, perception and presence within each environment.
Research informs every project, drawing from philosophy, architecture, psychology and emerging technologies to explore the relationship between memory, consciousness and digital culture. By carefully integrating technological systems into architectural space, NOHLAB creates works where immersive experience emerges not from technological complexity alone but from the subtle orchestration of atmosphere, rhythm and perception.
