Biography
fuse* was founded in Modena, Italy, in 2007 by Mattia Carretti and Luca Camellini. The studio brings together artists, architects, engineers and designers who make installations, performances and exhibitions driven by research and experimentation, often in collaboration with specialists and research centres. Known for large-scale installations and live performance, fuse* works across sculpture, video, light and sound, constantly testing new relationships between the physical, digital, natural and artificial.
Works such as Multiverse and Artificial Botany have been presented internationally at venues including the V&A, Sónar and Triennale Milano. Live performance is central: the studio operates as an art studio, theatre company and production house at once, staging immersive works in major theatres from Mexico City to Yokohama, and from 2016 to 2024 it co-produced the NODE digital-arts festival. Across everything, fuse* works to turn the artistic experience into a tool for shared knowledge and renewed attention to the world.
Practice
fuse* creates spatial environments where scientific research, computational systems and artistic expression become inseparable. Working across installation, performance, sculpture, sound and moving image, the studio develops projects that reveal the invisible processes shaping both natural and technological worlds.
Generative software, artificial intelligence, data visualisation and real-time systems are employed not as subjects in themselves but as tools for exploring ecology, memory, consciousness, planetary systems and collective behaviour. Rather than overwhelming audiences with technological spectacle, fuse* creates contemplative experiences that encourage curiosity, empathy and deeper engagement with the interconnected systems that define contemporary life.
MOLTEN Perspective
fuse* demonstrates that immersive art can be both intellectually rigorous and emotionally generous.
Drawing equally from science and philosophy, the studio transforms complex research into experiences that remain accessible without sacrificing depth. Whether exploring climate systems, machine learning, astronomy or the fragile relationships between living organisms, fuse* consistently reveals the human stories embedded within data, reminding audiences that technology is never separate from the natural world but part of an increasingly interconnected ecosystem.
For museums, festivals, theatres and cultural institutions, fuse* offers a rare combination of artistic maturity, scientific credibility and technical excellence. Their work demonstrates that immersive art is capable not only of creating wonder, but of expanding how we understand ourselves and the complex systems we inhabit.
