Biography
DECOL Media Arts Studio is a multidisciplinary studio working across spatial art, interactive technology and experience design. Based in Istanbul and Berlin, the collective brings together artists, designers, architects, software developers and creative technologists who believe technical innovation and artistic expression should evolve together rather than exist as separate disciplines.
From multisensory installations and interactive experiences to live audiovisual performance, stage design, custom software and extended reality, DECOL develops projects that connect computation with physical space. Rather than relying solely on existing creative tools, the studio frequently builds its own systems, allowing each work to respond to audiences, architecture and live data in ways specific to the concept being explored.
Projects including ARKHE: A Digital Alchemy Experience, Echoes of Eternity, Saye'nizde, Continuum and Echoes of Basilica demonstrate a practice in which technology behaves less like a fixed tool and more like a living material, continually evolving through interaction, computation and sensory experience.
Practice
DECOL Media Arts Studio creates multisensory environments in which software, architecture, sound, moving image and physical space operate as one creative system. Its work spans interactive projection, light, sound, haptics, robotics, stage design and extended reality, with the studio designing both the artistic experience and the technologies that enable it.
Custom software forms the foundation of much of the practice. Using TouchDesigner, Unreal Engine, Unity and openFrameworks alongside bespoke development in C++, DECOL creates responsive systems that adapt to audience interaction, environmental conditions and live performance. Computation is treated as an active creative material, enabling installations and performances to remain dynamic, generative and continuously evolving.
Collaboration is central to this approach. DECOL works with artists, musicians, architects, researchers and technical specialists, shaping the spatial and computational framework through which their contributions meet. The studio's strongest projects do not use technology as spectacle alone; they use it to connect people with memory, place, live data and one another.
MOLTEN Perspective
DECOL Media Arts Studio belongs to a new generation of studios where artistic authorship extends beyond the visual outcome to the software that makes the work possible.
In an era when many immersive experiences rely on off-the-shelf technologies, DECOL Media Arts Studio distinguishes itself by building custom computational systems that are inseparable from the artistic concept. Code is not simply a production tool but a creative medium, shaping how installations behave, respond and evolve over time. This integration of engineering and artistic thinking gives the studio unusual creative freedom, enabling experiences that feel genuinely alive rather than predetermined.
For museums, festivals, cultural institutions and live events, DECOL offers an approach that combines technical sophistication with conceptual ambition. Their work demonstrates that the future of immersive art lies not only in increasingly advanced technologies, but in artists who understand how to shape those technologies into meaningful human experiences.
