Biography

Jonathan Fitas is a French composer who creates music for films, recordings and immersive spaces. Trained first as a violinist before turning to composition, he became one of Naïve Records' first French neoclassical signings, developing a musical language across piano, strings and electronics.

His scores have accompanied major spatial works at Atelier des Lumières in Paris, Infinity des Lumières in Dubai and OASIS Immersion in Montreal. In 2022, he collaborated with visual artist Roman Hill on IMPULSE for Noor Riyadh. More recently, he composed the original score for Origines, a Tale of Light, an eight-part ARTE documentary exploring the scientific and cosmic history of light.

Based in Normandy, Fitas is also the founder of Maison Mujō, a label shaped by his commitment to artistic independence, animal welfare and the natural world.

Practice

Fitas composes as though the room were an instrument. Working across piano, strings, electronics and multichannel audio, he writes for the scale, acoustics and emotional arc of a physical space rather than treating sound as an element added after the visual work is complete.

He often begins at the earliest stage of a project, allowing music, moving image and architecture to develop together. His scores shape how audiences experience time, movement and atmosphere, carrying narrative and emotion without relying on words.

Across recordings, film and audiovisual installations, his work brings intimacy into expansive environments. Classical, cinematic and experimental influences move fluidly through the practice, but emotion remains the constant. Abstraction and technical experimentation are used in service of feeling rather than as ends in themselves.

MOLTEN Perspective

Sound is often introduced after the visual language of an immersive work has already been established. Jonathan Fitas works differently. By entering at the beginning of a project, he allows composition, image and architecture to develop as interdependent parts of the same experience. His strength lies in understanding that spatial sound is not simply about surrounding an audience. It is about shaping attention, pacing and emotional movement across a room.

Sound does more than accompany an experience. It shapes how people feel, move through space and remember what happened there.
