On Blank Pages

2026 · Cathedral Square, Brixen, Italy

Participation is not an addition to On Blank Pages. It is the material through which the installation develops.

Presented in Cathedral Square during the 2026 Water Light Festival, Luzinterruptus constructed a circular wall measuring 12 metres across and three metres high. Thousands of water-resistant paper pages covered the structure, illuminated from within and left blank for visitors to write or draw upon.

Over seventeen days, individual messages, questions and images accumulated across its surface. Some addressed peace and coexistence directly, while others reflected personal concerns, contemporary conflicts and hopes for the future. Private thoughts gradually formed an anonymous public conversation without being reduced to a single position.

The installation changed with both participation and environmental conditions. Internal illumination transformed the wall after dark, yet the writing continued to attract visitors during daylight. Wind lifted and shifted the pages, continually altering the relationship between individual contributions and the composition as a whole.

Curated for the festival by Nika Perne, On Blank Pages responded to the Imagine Peace theme by leaving its central question open. Rather than illustrating peace, the artwork created a structure in which people could consider and articulate what it might mean.
