Fifteen illuminated rings rise and fall in the dark, continually changing the space between them.
In CYCLES N2, Spanish artist SpY uses the simplest of geometric forms as the basis for a kinetic light installation. Each suspended ring moves independently within a choreographed sequence. As the arrangement changes, rings appear to gather into a larger structure, separate into individual elements and establish new relationships of depth and scale.
The encounter unfolds over time. A viewer cannot understand the complete composition from a single moment because its form depends on the movement of each ring in relation to the others. Light reveals the circles, while the surrounding darkness makes the spaces between them just as important.
Presented in Kazan, Russia, the work continues SpY's exploration of how a direct visual language can alter the perception of public and exhibition spaces. Its physical components remain recognisable throughout, yet their collective arrangement never settles into one permanent image.
CYCLES N2 turns repeated motion into a changing spatial composition, inviting sustained attention to the relationship between individual elements and the whole.
