HYBYCOZO

HYBYCOZO is the Los Angeles-based studio of artists Yelena Filipchuk and Serge Beaulieu, known for large steel sculptures whose intricate geometries cast shifting patterns of light and shadow. The name comes from their first collaborative installation, Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, presented at Burning Man in 2014, and the studio has since moved from those festival origins into museums and permanent public collections.

Filipchuk's background in conservation, natural patterns and biomimicry meets Beaulieu's in industrial design, a pairing that keeps the work grounded equally in nature and fabrication. Recent sculptures include Congruence, commissioned by the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art for its permanent collection, and Stratosphere, acquired by the Ulrich Museum of Art — a practice now established within the institutional art world as well as the public realm.

HYBYCOZO creates large-scale sculptural installations that explore geometry as a fundamental language of nature, science and human culture. Using digitally modelled and precisely fabricated steel forms, the studio develops intricate structures that generate constantly shifting patterns of light and shadow.

Light is never treated as an addition to the sculpture but as an essential material within it. During daylight, each work exists as a carefully engineered geometric object; after dark, the same structure projects complex spatial patterns that transform surrounding architecture into immersive environments. By combining mathematics, fabrication and sculptural practice, HYBYCOZO reveals the beauty and universality of geometric systems that underpin both natural and human-made worlds.
