OPERA MUNDI
Yann Nguema
2026 · Sydney, Australia
Projection mapping at an architectural scale succeeds when it works with the logic of the building.
Created for Vivid Sydney, Yann Nguema’s Opera Mundi amplifies the Sydney Opera House’s relationship with nature, movement and organic form.
Patterns inspired by microscopic phenomena unfold across the sails through layered kinetic sequences. Controlled transitions of light reveal intricate structures and natural relationships through Nguema’s highly graphic visual language.
Rather than treating the building as a neutral canvas, the projection allows its geometry to remain active within the experience.
The work feels embedded within the architecture, demonstrating how projection mapping can become a form of spatial interpretation rather than surface decoration.
Projection mapping uses the building itself as the image surface. The contours of the Opera House become part of the composition, so the work is experienced through the relationship between moving light and a familiar architectural landmark.
