Octave Maze

Wit Pimkanchanapong

2026 · Bangkok, Thailand

In Octave Maze, sound does more than accompany the architecture. It physically reorganises it.

Created by Bangkok-based artist Wit Pimkanchanapong, the kinetic installation comprises 88 illuminated acrylic panels, motors and a counterweight system corresponding to the 88 keys of a modern piano. Musical and data inputs activate an eight-step movement sequence, causing sections of the maze to rise and fall. Pathways, sightlines and the audience’s perception of enclosure change as the work moves.

First presented at One Bangkok in 2024, Octave Maze developed from Wit’s earlier Infinite Maze. It was adapted for the former headquarters of Asvin Pictures during Bangkok Design Week 2025 before evolving into Octave Maze Live, a platform for performances created in dialogue with its moving architecture.

For State of Being, Dr Yeewon Chong of Neuro Art Hub and audiovisual artist Lling Lling connected real-time EEG, acoustic piano, MIDI programming and electronic music to the installation. Brain activity, musical information and engineering signals entered a continuous exchange between body, sound and space.

Wit describes his approach as “soft architecture.” Here, that idea becomes tangible: an environment whose form and function remain open to whoever activates it.
