Human Carnival III

Dustin Yellin's Human Carnival III (2024) brings the visual language of painting and collage into a three-dimensional glass sculpture.
Working with glass, epoxy, acrylic paint and collaged imagery, Yellin constructs his sculptural paintings through successive transparent layers. Each contains fragments of a larger composition, with individual elements positioned at different depths.
The result is a densely populated visual structure in which imagery is not simply arranged across a surface but distributed through physical space.
Viewed from the front, the composition appears almost pictorial. As the sculpture rotates, its internal structure becomes more apparent. Figures overlap, separate and shift in relation to one another, revealing details that were previously concealed.
Close examination reveals the intricacy of Yellin's technique, where countless individual elements contribute to the overall image.
His practice draws from nature, science, history and popular culture, combining disparate visual references within carefully constructed glass forms.
Human Carnival III demonstrates how collage can move beyond the flat surface, becoming a sculptural experience shaped by transparency, depth and the changing position of the viewer.
