CHRONOTOPIA
Caitlind R.C. Brown and Wayne Garrett
2026 · Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece
Chronotopia transforms 1,500 secondhand eyeglass lenses into a new way of seeing the Cretan coastline.
Created by Caitlind R.C. Brown and Wayne Garrett, the installation surrounds a chair with four layers of optical lenses arranged across two curved steel forms.
Each lens captures a different fragment of the sea, sky and surrounding landscape. The horizon becomes hundreds of shifting views, moving gently with the wind.
From outside, the person seated within the work also appears fragmented, pixelated and almost ghostlike through the overlapping lenses.
There are no screens or projections. The experience is created entirely through glass, steel, natural light and movement.
A quiet reminder that spatial art does not need to overwhelm us. Sometimes it can simply help us see a familiar place differently.
The chair positions the visitor within the lens arrangement rather than outside it. Looking outward and being viewed through the lenses become two different ways of encountering the same structure.
