ALL-TOGETHER-NOW
Children of the Light
2025 · Nxt Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Five luminous rings move independently through darkness before briefly arriving in alignment.
Created by Amsterdam-based artist duo Children of the Light, ALL-TOGETHER-NOW (2025) draws inspiration from the first image of a black hole, released by the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration in 2019.
Suspended within the gallery, each ring follows its own programmed cycle. Their positions, intensity and colour temperature gradually change, shifting from amber towards pure white. A spatial sound composition by Sébastien Robert extends the work beyond its visible structure, creating an environment that visitors experience by moving beneath and around the illuminated forms.
The rings appear connected, yet their trajectories remain distinct. Their eventual synchronicity lasts only briefly, making anticipation central to the encounter. Visitors are not simply watching a kinetic sculpture perform. They are waiting within its orbit for separate systems to momentarily become one.
By translating a distant scientific image into movement, light and sound, ALL-TOGETHER-NOW brings ideas of gravity and cosmic scale into direct relationship with the human body.
